Published at The Register, KPN is unveiling a kid phone - iKids, which remains working even when the phone isn't activated. Parents can select three 'safety zones', areas where their children are allowed to play. If they wonder off to another area, parents receive an SMS message. They can also look up the child's whereabouts on a virtual map. If one pre-defined number isn't answered, the phone will try the next one.

The European launch of the Buddy Bear will be on October 15, 2005 with Dutch telco Scarlet is being touted as the first launch of such a device for kids in Europe - this device will be for the moment available only in the Dutch market for approximately 130 Euros.

When I was a kid, I had toy phones to play with, all plastic - my child (with 15 months) has 5, including 4 mobile versions, but all in plastic :).
