The next best thing in mobile phones

Wireless Intelligence states that two billion mobile phones are now in use - one for every three people on the planet.
Mobile phones have evolved a million years since the first headset (handset, literally), about 20 years ago. Today we find all type of mobile phones, for every taste, for every pocket. Mobile manufacturers try to market their headsets differently one from the other: camera phone, multimedia phone, imaging phone, music phone, walkman phone, business phone, etc.

However, what can we expect to see in the future? Certainly, the improvement of functionality, and a better tune of features - some yet not very stable. Second, a better exploitation of niche markets - thought the use of customization features, colors, tunes, operator specific interfaces, and services. Thirdly, a more frequent launch of new devices - life cycle of a phone will decrease dramatically. For instance, Nike may think on having their own branded phones (has they have watches and other accessories) and launch a fully customized series of devices. Ultimately, the mobile phone makes will no longer behave as divas but they will be cutting and assembling products based on client demands and requirements.

Today the mobile phone nibbles on other products, but many are convinced this means the begin of end for some business. Take cameras, for instance - when you can buy a 7-megapixel camera phone (Samsung V770) why should you waste your money in a stand-alone camera? On the other hand, if you have a great MP3 player, why should you waste your money on an iPod - Simple isnt it ? Now the joint venture between Sony and LM Ericsson, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications, does not seem so odd anymore, does it?
