Palm, hanging to the last straw?

Palm, the all time PDA giant, has unveiled two PDAs yesterday – the Palm TX, a full fledged application device that includes WLan and telephony application (that is, smartphone) and the other, the Palm Z22, an entry-level device without telephony capability (a PDA just like in the old days).

The Palm Z22 will be available for the consumer for $99 and includes color screen, space to store thousands of contacts, appointments, and other data. The Palm TX costs $299 and it includes Wi-Fi short-range wireless Internet access and Bluetooth.

The long time Microsoft enemy, which now decided the Redwood guys are the best in the world (perhaps with the most cash to spend), has decided to change avenue and soon there will be a Palm Microsoft device out there (Windows Treo) very soon.

Palm controls about 80 percent of the PDA market – however this market is shrinking as other devices perform similar functions and include more applications. The devices can prove to be successful, thanks to Palms history - but chances are big that Nokia eats the cake first with their E-Series, unveiled today.

Nokia's E series will certainly slice away at Palm's European marketshare. I need to get one of these things! I'm still using a Nokia 3300 mobile phone!
