Nokia will not follow Ericssons way - why should they?

Nokia Networks reluctant to follow Ericsson's way - Why should they, to begin with?

Everyone knows Nokia is good with terminals (read, mobile phones) while Ericsson is good with infrastructure and network management. Nokia is good with marketing; Ericsson is good with technical sales. Its difficult to mix water with oil and companies like Nokia and Ericsson play in different fields - same goes for their business and strategy.

The Nokia official mentioned the network business accounts for about 20% of the total sales, but it would be rather interesting to know how much profit does that mean in the company overall - if 20% of their sales are infrastructure and network products then I think they are lucky, because it will not be as good as this in the future. Nokia locked some network carriers but only by influence of their success in the mobile business. Nokia has good solution, but on slideware - the major network carriers are with Ericsson.

On the other hand, Ericsson that had enough of losses with mobile terminals until it decided to get rid of the handset business. Later on, formed Sony Ericsson with Sony, which was a smart move from both. As you know, even their co-founding position at Symbian was drastically diminished recently, handed out to Sony Ericsson (the only thing that made sense!). Ericsson is the typical example of a company that is good with research and development...not with marketing. Therefore, it is unlikely Nokia to focus on network business expansion as Ericsson will pursue the opposite.

Ericsson is eager to develop further the mobile and broadband network business but I have a strong feeling that they will be managing fix line networks business at a cruise speed. The fix line business as per se is a source of income, not an ascending business. Ericsson bought the customer base from Marconi, nothing else. Most likely shifting their personal to China in the near future.

Each monkey has its own branch in the tree.
